The first one that read my thoughts about the Ring of Submission was Kitti. When she was finished she lectured me about the depth of the ring which I was not aware of. She told me to draw a circle on a piece of paper and write the attributes of the ring clockwise around it, starting with love on top and equal distance between them. It was at the third one, Honesty, when a faint smile appeared on my face. When she finally instructed me to draw lines from love to honesty, from honesty to surrender and so on, my faint smile immediately developed into a broad joyful grin.
To be honest, I bit my tail I did not see for myself in the first place.
Kitti taught me the next feature is always nourished by the previous one, meaning love feeds devotion, devotion feeds honesty and so on. The lines on the other hand show how love, for example, controls honesty.
If you wonder by now why I had such a grin you have to understand my passion for mathematics and geometry. When it became clear to me the lines would form the diagonals of a pentagon i.e. a pentagram, I suddenly realized why the ring appeared to be so harmonious to me from the very beginning.
But why would a pentagram make me smile? Because a pentagram has two very special characteristics. The first one is the fact that inside the pentagram there is a small pentagon in which you can draw diagonals again, creating a smaller upside-down pentagram.
Of course there is another even smaller pentagon inside. And of course this one can also be filled with its diagonals:
Long story short: one can play this game for all eternity and would never reach the end. To me this is sort of proof to my statement that the circle never ends.
The diagonals of a pentagram cut each other at a specific ratio:
D/d' = d'/d'' = 1.618033….
This number is called Φ (Greek capital letter phi) and is an irrational number, meaning it goes on for all eternity never repeating itself. Just like π and love.
The ratio itself is called the “golden section” and is considered a natural harmonic. Anywhere it appears, natural or artificial, the viewer finds a very special esthetic view.
One might think now I approach the whole thing of the Ring of Submission only in a theoretical and technical way, leaving out all the feelings. Rest assured, nothing could be further from the truth. I am well aware this ring stands for a way of life and has to be lived with heart and passion. I also know that the mind and rational thinking can never explain the true nature of love, devotion, honesty, obedience and surrender. The mind is merely a tool to analyze the ring and can be used to see how it works and how the corners are connected.
At the end my sincere thank goes to Miss Diane Yootz, who taught me the very foundation of the Ring of Submission and to my sister Kitti, who explained to me how deep and well thought the Ring is.
With guidance from my Mistress and help from my Sister, I look forward to explore the depths of the Ring of Submission.
